ArtHaus kicked off it's Summer Art Camp "East Meets West" with an exciting performance of a traditional Chinese Lion Dance by the Pai Lum Kung Fu & Tai Chi Martial Arts school in the parking lot of ArtHaus (3840 Ridgewood Ave.) Session one features a study of China all week long. On Tuesday, June 9, 2009, there were 2 performances by the Pai Lum Lucky Lion Dance Troupe. The first performance began at 11:45 am completing the morning session. The 2nd performance was performed at 1 pm beginning the afternoon session. Parents, family and friends parked in the back and sat in chairs on the shaded side of the parking lot to enjoy the performance. The performance included the Lucky Lion Dance band that consisted of a large temple drum to create a rhythm, cymbals and a gong for emphasis and excitement. The performance began with the lion asleep on the ground. He wakes up and chases his tail. He is a very playful lion. He danced around and found the lucky head of lettuce which he chewed up and tossed at the youngsters. It is good luck to have lettuce tossed at you! (Only by a lucky lion though!) After dancing and prancing some more with several amazing tricks, the lion then went to each child who fed the lion with a red envelope that had a dollar tucked inside. Feeding the lion will insure good luck and prosperity in your future! The art campers loved the Lucky Lion dance! The Pai Lum Kung Fu and Tai Chi Martial Arts School offer classes throughout the area. For those interested in training in Chinese Martial Arts can contact the school by calling 255-3244 and talking to John Riddick. Performances by the Lucky Lion Dance Troupe can also be obtained by calling the same number. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||||||
