Heres the Featured Young Artist interview for the website, his name is Fabian Fioto.
Interview continued from All About ArtHaus Volume 3 Issue 2, 2010.

Hi there!
Thank you very much for selecting me to be featured in the newsletter! We are leaving for California very soon, relocating family and our business. I want to thank everyone at Arthaus for putting on shows and giving myself and other students great opportunities to be recognized for our art!

What is your earliest art memory?
My earliest memories of making art have always been drawing cars and art to do with cars and rockabilly lifestyle. I grew up working on old cars and going to car shows and have always loved to make art that reflected that.

What helped you to decide to go into to art as an elective at school?
I knew right away I wanted to excel in art when I entered high school. My parents have also encouraged me in taking art classes, I always loved to draw and paint when I was younger.

What kind of career are you hoping / planning for? Where are you going to get your degree?
I plan on continuing to restore and customize old cars with my Father, Gary Chopit Fioto, and Brother, Nick. I consider what we do to be an art form, with metal fabrication and design on the cars. I also want to keep making art in the fields of drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. I really enjoy photographing the cars we build and even doing paintings or drawings of them.

What was it like to have your art on exhibit at ArtHaus?
It is very rewarding to have my art exhibited locally, I get satisfaction when I see my work hanging up on display and other people looking at it. I also look forward to criticism, both positive and negative, I think it only helps me improve my skills as an artist and it makes me motivated to create more works.

Who is your most admired artist?
I have many artists that inspire me, but one of my favorites would have to be Warhol. I love the simplicity of his work and how in most of his works each print varies.

Do you have any advice for young artists?
My advice for younger artists would be to keep doing what you love, and take input from everyone and apply new knowledge when you make new art.

How would you describe your style or goal as an artist?
My style is very vintage and rockabilly. I am fascinated with old cars and rockabilly / 1950's lifestyle. I photograph our custom cars with pinup style girls to achieve a genuine feel, almost like that shot may have been taken in 1956 or so. I also throw in elements of pop art in some of my 2D work like linocuts. And most of my sculptures are influenced by the same elements as well.

Who do you feel has helped you realize your artistic self?
My parents have helped me realize my talent in art as well as my art teachers Mrs. Bohman, Ms. Colby and Mrs Curry over at New Smyrna Beach High School. I have learned a great wealth of knowledge in art through their teaching and am very grateful for that.

How has being a part of your high schools art club benefited you as a student/artist?
Having art be a part of my high school education has benefited me in many ways. For me, this includes learning to accept criticism with a positive outlook and I have been very satisfied with the recognition I get as an artist at school from my teachers and classmates. This influences me to continue to make art , it is something I am passionate about and I don't think I will ever give it up!

Thank you very much!
You can check out some more of my art on our business website below, I have my own page.
Thanks again!
